Celebrate A Divestment Win By Taking Action

Momentum has been building around fossil fuel divestment for years across the world and at the University of Ottawa. Fossil Free uOttawa has been campaigning for divestment for over three years. Today we celebrate with them as a global movement as they join 500+ institutions that have committed to divest.
Divestment is a movement that has united students, professors, staff, student unions and community stakeholders, but you know who is missing from this list? Alumni.
Sign an alumni petition supporting divestment.
One of Universities and Colleges most valuable assets is their reputation, and its alumni network is a crucial part of that reputation. In our generation, so many young people are degree holders. As alumni, we have incredible power to influence the behaviour of our alma maters, if enough of us act together. So here is what you can do:
Pledge
not to financially support your degree institution until they commit
to divestment.
Post about what you are doing on social media and let your university
know by letter or email why you can't support them until they support
divestment. Sign an alumni petition supporting divestment.
Commit to encouraging fellow alumni to take the pledge and to sign a petition as well. Isn't a petition for your school? Start one! We can help.Willing to go one step further?
Sign up to return your degree to your institution if they vote against divestment.
