How will Nestle's bottled water and corporate water takings affect communities' drinking water?
Does BC's new Water Sustainability Act protect water sources even if droughts worsen this year?
How do trade agreements like NAFTA, TPP and CETA affect water protection on the west coast?
The B.C. Government passed the new Water Sustainability Act and will beginning implementation with new groundwater regulations. The previous water act was 100 years old. There are improvements with the new Act. However, the new Act fails to shift water governance from being driven by economics and property rights to promoting stewardship, sustainability and the human right... to water.
The Council of Canadians is responding to the Act with its report, Water Rush: Why B.C.’s Water Sustainability Act fails to protect water. Join Emma Lui, water campaigner for the Council of Canadians, to learn more about the Act and to find out what you need to take action to protect water.
Emma Lui is the national water campaigner for the Council of Canadians. Emma is also a researcher on water issues, human rights, water privatization and corporate social responsibility. She has an M.A. in political economy and a B.A. in human rights and law from Carleton University.She is now working out of the Vancouver office.
