SumOfUs r1
...
A,
In the few years since SumOfUs was launched, we’ve built a huge global community of millions of people.
We’ve campaigned on everything from Nestle’s thirsty pursuit of precious water supplies to Walmart’s treatment of its workers, holding corporations to account around the world.SumOfUs now stands at a crossroads. We've come a long way, but there’s so much more to do. So we now have a big favour to ask.
Can you help us decide on what we should campaign on next?
Tell us what campaign we should be running with our community!
Tell us what to campaign on
The SumOfUs staff team is small and try as we might, we can’t spot every worthy campaign or fight all the fights. You could be the eyes and ears of SumOfUs and now is your chance to have your say. Can you help by starting a petition on our community petitions site?
Here’s what your idea in action might like look:
- You start a petition on the new SumOfUs Community Campaigns website.
- You recruit your friends to sign it, and they get their friends to sign.
- We send it out to a few thousand SumOfUs members. They get really excited about it, so we send it to everyone in your city, your country, or maybe even all 6 million SumOfUs members around the world.
- You use our email tool to have your neighbors contact the campaign target, and get even more signers.
- SumOfUs pays for you to print copies of your petition, and you deliver it to the company or person you're petitioning. You might even get on TV and in the newspaper.
And most importantly -- you win your campaign and together we push back against unaccountable corporate power. Victory!
Let us know what you’d like to campaign on, and then get started on your own petition.

Already members around the world have set up and are running their own campaigns:
-
Deepa called on Unilever to compensate workers exposed to deadly mercury at its factory in Kodaikanal, India, and we won! The petition gathered almost 120,000 signatures form SumOfUs members supporting a powerful Indian campaign for justice.
- Matt from Michigan called on his Governor to invest in clean public water for Flint, and stop companies like Nestle from taking over the state’s clean water reserves . His petition has over 100,000 signatures. He’s already been quoted by the press and SumOfUs staff is actively working with Matt to make sure his campaign is a success.
- Holly set up a petition demanding that the manufacturer of Tampax stop using cotton sprayed with Monsanto’s Glyphosate on its feminine products. Her petition has nearly 100,000 signatures and she has been contacted by the press about her campaign.
This is just a slice of how SumOfUs members are starting their own campaigns and growing their petitions to huge numbers. Your suggestion could do the same.
Can you tell us what you’d like to campaign on and then start your own campaign?
I want you to campaign on...
Thanks for all you do,
Paul, Angus, Deborah, Katie, and the rest of the team at SumOfUs.org
P.S. If you get 200 signatures on your petition, we could email it to thousands of people in your area to help it grow (assuming that it's consistent with our community's progressive values).
