This is what people power looks like

On Earth day, the Leadnow community worked with key allies to launch one of the biggest campaigns we’ve worked on since the Vote Together campaign in the last election: The People’s Climate Plan.

Our goal: connect people in communities across the country to pack the government’s consultations on the National Climate Strategy to give them a mandate to draft a climate plan that’s based on science, builds a 100% renewable energy economy and ensures a just transition for all.

Just a month later, the results have already exceeded all expectations. To date, community leaders across the country have confirmed over 72 climate town halls hosted by MPs and orientations hosted by community leaders. More importantly, over 1,600 people have attended one of the 11 town halls that have been held over the past month from Fredericton NB to Esquimalt BC.

This success is a reflection of the thirst for climate action in Canada. Yet, these stories are getting lost in the media. This means it’s easier for the government to ignore the voices of people attending these town halls and calling for a 100% clean energy economy.

Instead, the media is focusing on pipelines that could derail any form of climate action. That’s why we’re taking matters into our own hands by investing in videographers and photographers to collect stories, film speakers and create multi media materials.

The goal is to spread the voices of these people through social media and give traditional media greater incentive to run these stories. That way we can make it impossible for the government to ignore people like you.

Will you help us fund this next phase of the People’s Climate Plan with a donation as small as $5, $10 or $15?

277 people from across the country have already pitched in an average of $30 to help us kickstart this campaign and hold momentum. Now we just need to make an extra investment to ensure the voices of people at these town halls are not ignored by the government or the media.

One of the big successes of the Vote Together campaign during the 2015 Federal election was its visibility. Thanks to the dozens of media hits, hard hitting social media campaigns, and promotional videos, the Vote Together campaign reached millions of people and helped defeat the Harper Conservatives.

Now, we want the voices calling for climate action to be heard across the country and, most importantly, ensure they can’t be ignored by the government.

Help make this a reality by chipping in what you can today.
