With the launch of Delivering Community Power this February, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers have created the possibility for an alliance between environmental groups and unions that goes beyond the usual rhetoric and could result in big wins and a new way of organizing.
Postal workers are facing some big challenges. The Harper-appointed executive of Canada Post is looking to lock out the crown corporation’s 54,000 workers as early as July, all while a review is underway that will determine the shape of the postal service for decades.

Teachers in Ontario found reason to celebrate recently.
In 2012, the Ontario Liberal government passed the “Putting Students First Act,” a bill which imposed contracts on teachers and effectively took away their right to strike.
This April, the Ontario Superior Court ruled that this act (also known as Bill 115), had violated teachers’ constitutional rights. Teachers, like other workers, are guaranteed the right to negotiate the terms of their work collectively and to have these negotiations be meaningful. Read more!
On Wednesday, June 16, Chrystia Freeland, the Liberal Minister of International Trade visited her own riding of University-Rosedale in downtown Toronto in order to “listen” to the public as part of her promised consultation tour on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). The message Freeland heard at the meeting was a clear and resounding “No to the TPP”.
