This Monday - Phone Interview with Ian Angus - Capitalism and Anthropocene r1 ... System Change Not Climate Change news. r33

Special SCNCC
North American Call

- please distribute widely -

A broad and dispersed global climate justice movement has arisen in response to both the climate crisis and multiple local socio-economic challenges. "Ecosocialism" is a way to understand and engage with a body of theory and activism that connects "environmentalism" to a historical tradition of struggle for systematic society-wide transformation.

Like never before, we need to build a movement that connects those fighting ecological destruction with those fighting social, economic and political injustices and growth imperatives of capitalism.

Join us at System Change Not Climate Change (SCNCC) to help remobilize the ecosocialist network!!

North American Phone Conference
Monday, June 27 - 8:30pm (eastern) or 5:30pm (pacific)

Join a special on-line and phone-in interview with Ian Angus.

Ian Angus is editor of the online ecosocialist journal Climate & Capitalism, and co-author of the Belem Ecosocialist Declaration. His most recent book, Facing the Anthropocene: Fossil Capitalism and the Crisis of the Earth System, (Monthly Review Press, 2016) has been praised by Michael Lebowitz as a “crucial political intervention,” by Michael Lowy as “an outstanding contribution” and by John Bellamy Foster as “the most up-to-date and eloquent manifesto” of ecosocialism.

Bridging the gap between Earth System science and ecological Marxism, Facing the Anthropocene examines not only the latest scientific findings about the physical causes and consequences of the Anthropocene transition, but also the social and economic trends that underlie the crisis. It offers a unique synthesis of natural and social science that illustrates how capitalism's inexorable drive for growth, powered by the rapid burning of fossil fuels that took millions of years to form, has driven our world to the brink of disaster.

Please view here a compliation of Ian Angus's essays...

SCNCC is a joint Canadian and US coalition of ecosocialists and fellow travellers united in the belief that capitalism is driving climate change and that a radical international grassroots movement can stop it. Green capitalism is a dead end. So are liberal parties like the US Democrats and the corporate friendly approach of most Green NGOs. SCNCC believes the climate justice movement will unite with the labour movement and other struggles for liberation to create an alternative to the upside down world shaped by fossil fuels and corporate power. Another world is possible, but we need more ecosocialists to make it happen.
