After Brexit, Turning Away from Fear

  • Print

Open society is still our best chance for democracy, rule of law, rights, and equality.

Open Society Foundations Dear Friends,

Once a society opens itself, the prospect of a return to certainty is at best a nostalgic fantasy. A politics of fear can lead otherwise reasonable people to chase after that fantasy.

In the wake of Britain’s decision to leave the EU, we must seek to quell this fear—not only in Britain; indeed, not only in Europe. But everywhere we work.

We know the antidote to fear is solidarity in a common cause, and we know that civil society can be the crucible of such solidarity.

Brexit is a turning point. Where we turn now is up to us.

Thanks,

Chris Stone
