Urgent! Don't let Monsanto undermine GMO labeling

r1 ... PAN PAN Industry “compromise” on GMO labeling will keep us in the dark

Dear Paov,

Congress just passed a “compromise” bill that undermines states’ rights to label genetically engineered (GE) food — and it’s now headed to the President’s desk.

Speak up now! Urge President Obama to veto this very bad bill.

If signed into law, the legislation would replace on-package labels with a QR code that can only be read with smartphones. There would be no mention of GMOs, only the text “scan here for more food information.” Not good enough. What about the millions of us who don’t own smartphones?

Tell Pres. Obama to stand up for everyone’s right to know what’s in our food, and how it’s grown.

The timing of this legislation is no accident. On July 1, Vermont’s first-in-the-country labeling law went into effect — and industry giants like Monsanto have been urgently pushing for federal legislation to thwart this and any future state labeling initiatives.

Polls show that nine out of ten Americans support labeling genetically engineered food. But if President Obama signs the QR code legislation into law, consumers across the country will remain in the dark. We all have a right to know.

President Obama promised support for GE labels during his first campaign. Make sure he knows that this compromise bill doesn’t count!

Thanks for speaking up today.
