Friends,
We’ve seen some big highs and lows in the fight against the tar sands recently. A high point is that the Energy East pipeline hit a huge roadblock when the entire review panel for the project stepped down under public pressure. The downside is that the fossil fuel industry's using this moment to try and force the Kinder Morgan pipeline through to Canada’s West Coast.
Yesterday, Bloomberg reported that sources close to Prime Minister Trudeau have revealed that he will “approve at least one new oil pipeline project.” They hinted that Kinder Morgan is the “most likely candidate.” [1]
We can’t let this happen.
We know that there’s no way that Canada can meet its climate commitments while expanding the tar... sands. Click here right now to tell Prime Minister Trudeau, and his review panel, to reject Kinder Morgan.
With the recent resignation of the National Energy Board review panelists, the chances of the Energy East pipeline getting built get slimmer every day. That means, right now, the Prime Minister’s decision on the Kinder Morgan pipeline this December could determine whether or not the tar sands will expand.
This is the moment we need to act, all across Canada, and tell Prime Minister Trudeau to reject this pipeline.
Onwards,
Cam
P.S. The protests against the Dakota Access Pipeline, led by the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in the United States, have been an inspiring reminder that people power can win against pipelines. Check out this article to see how the movement against the Dakota Access pipeline intersects with the fight against the tar sands.
