Feeling down? Don’t worry: we have the tools we need to fight back against the politics that delivered Donald Trump’s victory. We just need to readjust our priorities.

1. Mobilizing within the membership.
The most basic tenet of union organizing is often the one that gets forgotten the fastest. Unions need to be in a constant state of mobilizing our members. Whether during or outside a period of bargaining, members need to be trained in debate and public speaking skills, given research materials and educational sessions, given opportunities to talk with fellow members and given the space to get creative in how they organize. UNDERSTANDING THE UNIVERSITY OF MANITOBA STRIKE

200 professors, instructors and librarians at the University of Manitoba are on strike.

Picket Lines started at 7am on November 1 after talks between the university administration and University of Manitoba Faculty Association (UMFA) broke down. Picket lines are at four locations. Three around the Fort Garry campus area in south Winnipeg and another on the Bannatyne campus in downtown Winnipeg. Read more!


FORD AND UNIFOR REACH AGREEMENT DESPITE OPPOSITION TO TWO-TIER

As bargaining between Unifor and the Canadian branches of the Detroit 3 automakers came down to the last company, Ford, the signs were pointing to an emerging resistance to decades of concessions.

Amid general opposition on the shop floor, leaders at the biggest Ford local were openly opposing the pattern the union had bargained with General Motors and Fiat Chrysler (FCA). Read more!


CLIFF HITS SCREENS ACROSS CANADA THIS NOVEMBER

The Canadian Labour International Film Festival (CLIFF) returns for its 8th season with a selection of Canadian and international films focusing on work, workers, and the labour movement.

“We are very excited by this year’s lineup,” said Frank Saptel, CLIFF’s founder. “We were astonished by another record-breaking year of film submissions. As Canada’s only national labour film festival, we believe this highlights how critical CLIFF is in providing a platform for sharing these engaging stories to a wider public.” Read more!
