After a long and hard-fought election federal election campaign, the results are in: Canada's new Parliament is poised to do great things for animals!
Humane Voters Canada took an active role in the election campaign, endorsing eight candidates with strong track records on animal issues, and working hard to help them get elected.
Today,... we're is thrilled to let you know that seven of our eight endorsed candidates were elected last night!
The winners are: Don Davies (NDP, Vancouver Kingsway), Fin Donnelly (NDP, New Westminster-Coquitlam), Nathaniel Erskine-Smith (Liberal, Beaches-East York), Hedy Fry (Liberal, Vancouver Centre), Mark Holland (Liberal, Ajax), Brian Masse (NDP, Windsor West), and Elizabeth May (Green, Saanich-Gulf Islands). Learn more about their amazing work on behalf of animals.
This is an amazing victory for the millions of Canadians who want politicians to take animal issues seriously and strengthen legal protections for animals through Parliament. But the good news doesn't stop there: on top of the candidates we endorsed, countless other newly-elected MPs from all parties also promised to help move animal issues forward in the new Parliament.
Public opinion polls consistently show that Canadians want politicians to take animal issues seriously, and having a strong, all-party caucus of MPs committed to protecting animals is key to improving life for animals in Canada.
Humane Voters congratulates the new Liberal government, all elected Members of Parliament, and everyone who contributed to the election campaign. We welcome the chance to work with the new Parliament to start getting action for animals.
