ACTION ALERT: Speak up for the most abused animals on earth

Would you spend ten minutes to help hundreds of millions of animals?

It's hard to relate to chickens. They look nothing like us, and many of us have never even met one. Yet, believe it or not, chickens are every bit as sentient as the dogs and cats we know and... love.

If you're like most Canadians, finding an injured bird would upset you. You would probably do what you could to help. Consider that last year alone we killed 640 million chickens in this country—chickens bred to suffer, raised in terrible conditions, and killed in a terrifying way.

The government lets Big Ag self-regulate. The poultry industry has just released a draft of its revised regulations, and they’re badly deficient. But it’s not too late: your input can still be heard. If enough of us speak up for chickens, the poultry industry will have no choice but to hear us.

Even if you have a hard time relating to chickens, I know you care about their suffering. They desperately need your help. Here are four things you can do right now:

1. Sign our petition calling on the poultry industry to curb genetic selection for rapid growth. Then, share the petition. Chickens today are four times larger than they were in the 1950s, exposing them to lameness, heart failure, and constant pain. Yet, the draft code doesn’t even address this runaway growth.

2. Comment on the draft regulations. We only have until December 4th. Tell the poultry industry that you’re paying attention, and that their shameful rules aren’t good enough in a civilized society. Our guide will help you quickly comment on the most important areas.

3. Check out our article in the Huffington Post on the topic, and share it far and wide. The poultry industry is trying to sneak through rules that are not consistent with Canadian values. The more people who are aware of this, the better our chances of getting meaningful reform.

4. Donate. Animal Justice is a highly effective organization driven by passionate volunteers, but we still have costs. Can you spare $20 to help us continue and expand our important work to fight for legal protection for all animals?

The most important thing anyone can do for chickens, and all animals, is to speak up for them. They are counting on us. Please do what you can, and ask your friends, family and colleagues to do the same.

Warmly,

Anna Pippus
