Leading the legal fight for animal protection
Animal Justice launches largest-ever animal protection billboard campaign
Animal Justice launched 68 billboards in Toronto and Vancouver, measuring at 10 x 20 feet each and expected to get 52 million views over the month-long campaign. The four different designs expose the tremendous suffering endured by animals used for food, fashion, experiments, and entertainment. The... billboards ask Canadians to sign the Animal Charter of Rights & Freedoms to support our fight to bring legal rights to animals. Shutting down trophy hunting expos
Animal Justice and our supporters scored a major victory in December after our petition convinced the Holiday Inn in Toronto to cancel a traveling African trophy hunting show. The trophy hunters found a new venue, but the new venue soon dropped the event after bad publicity. The Saskatoon Inn followed suit by dumping the same show, and now Calgary's Coast Plaza Hotel says it will refuse to host the trophy hunters in future years. We’re thrilled so many businesses are refusing to play any role in the cruel and brutal slaughter of majestic African animals.. Learn more. >>
Ontario moves to protect the rights of people who care about animals
After years of work by Animal Justice, the Ontario Human Rights Commission recently stated that people with secular belief systems--like ethical veganism--deserve protection from discrimination. This move means that people who don't want to hurt animals are one step closer to having the legal right to eat vegetarian food while in a hospital, to refuse to dissect an animal in school, and to enjoy a workplace free of harassment. Learn about your rights and how we can help protect them. >>
Animal Justice defends fur protester's rights
After the Vancouver Police unfairly threatened to lay criminal charges against a peaceful fur protester, Animal Justice intervened to file a formal complaint of police misconduct. Our complaint made headlines and showed why it's important to protect our legal rights to speak out against the appalling cruelty of the fur industry. Getting action on animal cruelty in Alberta
After a group of cattle were seen starving and dead in a field, Animal Justice helped an Alberta resident file a complaint over the Alberta SPCA's inaction. Despite the poor condition of the animals, the cattle were left in the care of the owner and no charges were laid. Read media coverage of our work to hold law enforcement agencies accountable. >>
Protecting coyotes and wolves in Ontario
Animal Justice is fighting to stop the Ontario government from allowing a cruel and scientifically unjustifiable slaughter of wolves and coyotes. The government claims gunning down innocent wolves and coyotes will increase moose populations, but the evidence says otherwise. And shockingly, Ontario still lets hunters gun down moose calfs.
