Federal regulators won't stop Canada Goose from deceiving consumers
Dear PAOV,
I usually write to you with good news, but today I need to share a disappointing update.
Last year Animal Justice made headlines when we filed a groundbreaking legal complaint against jacket company Canada Goose. We asked the federal Competition Bureau to take action to stop Canada Goose... from falsely claiming that it only uses "humane" fur.
We all know there's nothing humane about fur. Coyotes suffer horribly in leg-hold traps before they are brutally killed.
But the Competition Bureau just informed us that it won't take action to stop Canada Goose from falsely claiming coyote fur trim is humane.
We're shocked that the Competition Bureau waited nearly a year simply to tell us that it won't act. It's illegal to mislead consumers, which is why they should have acted immediately to stop Canada Goose's deception.
Killing animals for their fur is unavoidably cruel and inhumane. Coyotes can be left in cruel leg-hold traps for days at a time before the trapper returns, suffering from extreme weather, hunger, predation, and injuries.
But we don't give up easily. Our team is exploring all possible options for our next steps to stop Canada Goose and protect coyotes.
We can't win this battle without your help. Sign our petition demanding action, and please consider making a gift to Animal Justice to ensure we can keep fighting. We won't let Canada Goose win.
