Supreme Court: not all bestiality is illegal
The Supreme Court released its decision in the landmark case of R. v. D.L.W., ruling that only intercourse with animals is illegal, and other sexual abuse is not criminal conduct. This is wake-up call that our outdated animal protection laws need an immediate overhaul.

The good news for animal law
Animal Justice lawyers intervened in the R. v D.L.W. case to fight for animals, and while the result wasn't what we hoped for, this is still the first-time ever the country's top court acknowledged the importance of animal welfare. By being in the courtroom, we helped create an important precedent for the growing field of animal law.

Authorities investigate chicken cruelty at slaughterhouse
The B.C. SPCA is investigating Vancouver's Hallmark chicken slaughterhouse after a live chicken was put through an industrial equipment washer. As we point out in the Vancouver Sun, exposing live animals to the scalding water and chemicals of sanitizing washers is blatant animal cruelty. Hold abusers to account - report them!
