Dear PAOV,
Secretly-recorded video footage airing on CTV News this week exposed veterinarian Dr. Mahavir Singh Rekhi for viciously hitting, punching, and choking cats and dogs at his veterinary clinic in St. Catharines, Ontario.
The footage is... hard to watch. Among other abuses, Dr. Rekhi swings an unconscious cat by the tail, hitting the cat against a table; smacks a dog on the nose with metal nail clippers; and chokes a chihuahua. According to the whistleblowing employees who recorded the abuse, it was part of a long-time pattern of cruelty.
Dr. Rekhi was convicted of professional misconduct by the College of Veterinarians of Ontario in July, but he faces a mere 10-month suspension, and this could be reduced to only four months if he seeks further training.
We believe that vets who abuse animals don't deserve second chances.
It's unacceptable that Dr. Rekhi could be practicing veterinary medicine again as soon as December.
REVOKE DR. REKHI'S LICENSEAnimal Justice also filed an animal cruelty complaint with authorities, asking for Dr. Rekhi to face criminal charges. Law enforcement is investigating our complaint, and we'll keep pushing for charges to stop this abuser from targeting more animals.
Please write to the College of Veterinarians today. Thank you for helping us keep pets safe from Dr. Rekhi.
Sincerely,
