Dear PAOV,
There's no way to sugar coat it: Yesterday was a bad day for animals.
Members of Parliament voted against an important animal protection bill last night. Bill C-246 is dead.
Bill C-246—known as the Modernizing Animal Protections Act—would have helped bring Canada's animal laws into the 21st century. But tragically, the Prime Minister, cabinet ministers, and most Liberal MPs voted against this bill, ensuring it would be killed for good.
I'm not going to try to hide my disappointment. It's heartbreaking to think that any MP would vote against helping animals, let alone the entire government.
But our fight for stronger animal protection laws isn't over yet. We'll keep fighting until these important laws are finally passed.
And we can't do it without your help.
One of the reasons this bill died is that well-funded special interest groups representing farmers, hunters, and anglers misled MPs about the bill. These industries have deep pockets, and they spend a lot of money to block laws that help animals—like taking out two full-page newspaper ads this week to attack the bill.
We need to be able to compete with these industries in order to fight their support for shocking animal abuse. But to win this fight, we need resources.
Can you make a one-time donation today so we can win the fight for stronger animal laws?
DONATE NOWAnd if you're as disappointed as I am with the Liberal government blocking Bill C-246, please take a moment to tell the Prime Minister that it's time to do better.
Sincerely,P.S. Please share this with your friends, family, colleagues, and anyone else you know who cares about animals.
