BC has the second highest poverty rate in Canada, but is now the only province without a poverty reduction plan. The lead-up to May’s provincial election is a window of opportunity for you to let candidates from all parties know that you want to vote for someone willing to make a commitment to a poverty reduction plan. Just as we pool our resources to provide public health care and education to all, we must work together to provide public poverty reduction. We need to Make Poverty Public.

1 in 5 children in BC live below the poverty line, and the majority of children living in poverty in BC live in a home with at least one working parent. While 595,000 British Columbians live in poverty, BC is the only province that steadfastly refuses to even consider a poverty reduction plan. Adrienne Montani of First Call: BC Child and Youth Advocacy Coalition, Deanna Ogle Living Wage for Families Campaign, and Trish Garner of the BC Poverty Reduction Coalition will discuss the current realities of poverty and low wage work in our province and what a poverty free BC might look like.
Join us in learning how you can advocate for positive change during the provincial election. We will discuss ways that you can take action online, on your doorstep, and in your community.
