Vet who hit and choked pets faces criminal charges

r1 No second chances for vets who abuse pets! r33

Dear PAOV,

We just got the news: Authorities laid animal cruelty charges against the St. Catharines veterinarian who abused animals!

Abusive vet Dr. Rekhi was busted last year on surveillance footage for horrific animal abuse. He choked, punched, and hit vulnerable dogs and cats in his care. Animal Justice stepped in right away, filing a legal complaint with law enforcement. We're incredibly relieved that he now faces 16 counts of criminal animal cruelty.

These charges are now the only way to protect animals from Dr. Rekhi. Despite the heartbreaking cruelty he inflicted on cat and dog patients, the College of Veterinarians of Ontario refused to revoke his vet license. His vet clinic... is already open again, and now animals are at risk.

But if Dr. Rekhi is convicted of animal cruelty, a judge can ban him from owning or working with animals in the future. We're desperately hoping for this outcome. There should be no second chances for deliberate animal abuse!

PAOV, thank you so much for everything you did to help get justice for the victims of this abuse. By signing and sharing our petitions demanding harsh punishment, you helped achieve this outcome.

Thank you for supporting this important case!

Sincerely,

Camille Labchuk
