Victory! The judge said yes

We're going to court for whales and dolphins! View this email in your browser

Dear PAOV,

We did it!

Our lawyers won an important victory in court last week. A judge ruled that Animal Justice and Zoocheck will be allowed to intervene in the Vancouver Aquarium's latest lawsuit. This time, they're suing the Vancouver Park Board for their courageous decision to ban the Aquarium from keeping whales and dolphins in tanks.

We believe that whales and dolphins should be swimming free in the ocean—not condemned to captivity so they can generate cash for aquariums. Now, we can give captive whales and dolphins their desperately needed voice in the courtroom.

We're especially disturbed by the Aquarium's dangerous claim that keeping whales in captivity is a form of free expression, protected as a Charter right.

If the Aquarium wins, there could be dire consequences for all animals confined in zoos and aquariums. It would be difficult for politicians to enact any law protecting them from captivity.

The case is scheduled to be heard the week of October 2. Please wish us luck in court as we fight on behalf of whales, dolphins, and all other animals who could pay the ultimate price if the cetacean ban is struck down.

Sincerely,

Camille Labchuk
Executive Director
