Calling Canadian Union Supporters!
r1 ...

To be blunt and get right to the point: Canadian clothing brand Nygard is refusing to accept responsibility for the wages and severance stolen from over 200 women working for a supplier in Cambodia. As Canadian consumers we can bring pressure to bear on Nygard in ways others can’t. Those Cambodian workers have no hope of getting what is owed to them unless we are successful in pressuring Nygard into doing the right thing.
So please, send Nygard a message encouraging it to respect the workers who make the clothes it sells at stores across the country. It takes on a few seconds. Just click HERE. And please, pass this message on to all your friends, contacts and co-workers.
There are also a couple of offline actions coming in support of the Cambodian workers. On 23 August there will be leafletting by WUCC members at the Nygard stores in Winnipeg (Nygard’s hometown) and Mississauga. Look online for the Winnipeg details. For those in the Toronto region:
Wednesday August 23 at 1pm.

Mississauga, ON

A quick note for those of you in BC. The CUPE 1816-Pacfic Blue Cross struggle continues. If your employer provides extended healthcare or other benefits through Pacific Blue Cross go HERE to see how you can help end the lockout and at the same time register your complaint about the decline in service the lockout has resulted in.
Last but not least: like many workers centres across the country the Sudbury Workers Education and Advocacy Centre does lots and lots of great work on a shoestring budget. This summer that shoestring became a thread and SWEAC has had to cut the hours during which it is open. That means unorganized workers aren’t able to get the advice and assistance they need.
If you can spare a few loonies (no contribution is too small) the Centre’s credit union has set up a donation page. Just grab a credit card and go HERE to make a contribution to SWEAC’s work.
Better yet, get your union to make a donation. Every bit helps. $100 from a local union could make a very real difference to the workers SWEAC supports.
Takes seconds. Really. Try it and see.
Thank you!
In Solidarity,

Derek Blackadder
