There’s no easy way to deliver this news. Kinder Morgan is starting construction on its tanker terminal in Vancouver despite massive resistance from First Nations and communities along the line, opposition from the BC government, and without any sort of a climate test.

But the fight isn’t over yet. We know that movements like ours have the power to stop mega fossil fuel projects. Just two weeks ago, we got the good news that our movement's calls for a climate test stopped the Energy East pipeline. That’s why I’m asking you today to send a message to Prime Minister Trudeau calling on him to give Kinder Morgan a proper climate test.

To be honest with you, I hoped I’d never have to write this e-mail. As devastating climate disasters multiply... year after year, massive fossil fuel projects like Kinder Morgan shouldn’t be on the table at all. By pushing forward a pipeline at all costs, Prime Minister Trudeau has put the interests of Big Oil before people and the planet.

This is unacceptable. That's why on October 28th, people in Metro Vancouver will organize a massive flotilla right in the heart of the Kinder Morgan terminal. Together, they will send a powerful message to politicians, investors and Big Oil: people power is prepared to do whatever it takes to oppose dangerous tar sands expansion. If you’re not in BC right now, the most important thing that you can do is tell Trudeau and his ministers to give Kinder Morgan a proper climate test.

The stakes are high in this battle against Kinder Morgan. By approving this pipeline, Prime Minister Trudeau was betting that we wouldn’t rise up to the challenge of stopping this pipeline. Let’s prove him wrong.
