Dear friends,

Police accountability has been a central part of the BCCLA’s work for decades.

We know that trust between police and members of the public is crucial to creating safe communities and upholding the rule of law. Misconduct, violence, discrimination, over policing or neglect can, and do, undermine that trust.

Will you join us as we fight for police accountability? Your donation today supports this critical work.

That’s why we’re launching an initiative we’re calling, Policing Communities: an Initiative on the Relationship Between Indigenous Communities and the RCMP.

Your donation today will support this critical work.

By sending a gift today of $35, $50, $100 or any amount that you can afford, you are helping with the hard costs of this work. We don’t exist without the support of people like you. This work can’t happen without your donation.

I will be joined by Aboriginal and First Nations lawyer, Sonya Pighin, and together we will be working closely with a small number of Indigenous communities in northern BC to deliver rights-based workshops to adults and youth, assist service providers and community members to document police complaints, and collaborate with communities and other stakeholders to improve the police complaints process through restorative justice practices.

We need change now. To address police misconduct in northern BC, we need to address the relationship between Indigenous communities and the RCMP. We have started work with our community partners on this initiative, and we need your support to continue it.

That’s why I’m asking you to give generously today.

Please give what you can to support our work to address police misconduct and discrimination.

Sincerely,

Dylan Mazur,
BCCLA Community Lawyer
