Energy can be a bit of a strange beast
Canadians from coast to coast are being sold hydroelectricity as a climate solution. But what if the electricity from these megadams is going to power oil pipelines?Does that change everything?
This week in Dams for Dilbit James Wilt looks into the strange relationship between Manitoba's $8.7 billion Keeyask dam and the Energy East pipeline to explore how hydro dams — sold as clean energy projects to the public — are being built to help transport some of the world's most highly polluting oil.

James Wilt brings us the story of Beaver Lake Cree Nation, which decided that it would get solar power moving in the community. A year later, 94 solar panels were installed on the roof of the school.Community members even feel that taking charge of their own energy security has helped address intergenerational traumas, and young people have stepped up to receive training in solar panel installation and training.

Lawyer Andrew Gage explains why it's a problem that the B.C. government relies on industry-paid professionals to deliver advice, monitor impacts, and even make rulings on what companies can do.
