CoDev's Corner
In February, CoDevelopment Canada will accompany teachers from the BC Teacher's Federation's Aboriginal Advisory Committee to Mexico where they will carry out workshops with indigenous teachers of the democratic teachers' movement (CNTE) in Veracruz and Michoacan States. The BCTF's Gail Stromquist and Brian Coleman will present Spanish language versions of the
Blanket Exercise, and the
Project of Heart (about residential schools) to their Mexican colleagues.

If you are a public school teacher in BC (or Washington, or Oregon, for that matter), you may be interested in this exciting social justice conference CoDev partner, the BC Teachers' Federation, is planning for this April. Among the presenters is the wonderful Daysi Marquez, coordinator of the Honduran high school teachers' Non-Sexist and Inclusive Pedagogy Project, and indefatigable street fighter in the struggle for democracy following Honduras' November 26 presidential elections and subsequent mass repression.
Honduras
New President Sworn in

Despite a bitterly contested election, Juan Orlando Hernandez was sworn in as President a few days ago. His victory is seen as a case of electoral fraud. In response, the people remain in the streets protesting this "dictator" and his illegitimate second term. For more on this ongoing story, read
this and
