A victory for the bees!

A,

Did you know that SumOfUs members around the world chipped in to defend the strongest ban to date on bee-killing pesticides?

And it worked!

When Dow Chemical tried to undermine France's historic ban on neonics -- the class of pesticides known to pose a deadly risk for bees and other pollinators -- our partner in France, Générations Futures, was ready to sue.

With the help of thousands of SumOfUs members chipping in to cover the legal costs, they stopped Dow Chemical in court.

Dow’s move: The chemical giant tried to get around the French ban by pushing for a new kind of neonicotinoid -- Sulfoxaflor -- not to be counted as a neonic so they can go on selling bee-killing pesticides.

But thanks to our partners and SumOfUs members like you, the authorization of Dow Chemical’s dangerous sulfoxaflor pesticides is now on ice.

We have proven yet again that together, we can... hold even the biggest corporations to account.

Here’s a personal message from our friends at Générations Futures thanking the SumOfUs community for your support:

«A big thank you to all SumOfUs members for helping to fund our legal action against two sulfoxaflor pesticides! Without your support, we would not have been able to appeal the decision to allow Dow Chemical’s pesticides. It is thanks to you that we were able to obtain our first victory, as the Nice Administrative Court ordered the suspension of the authorization of these two pesticides.»

A huge Thank You from Générations Futures.

François Veillerette, director of Générations Futures.

We’ve won an important battle -- and bought some time for the bees. But the fight is far from over: Dow Chemical is appealing the decision to suspend the authorization in France’s highest court. And at the same time we are putting our weight behind making the suspension permanent -- so Dow’s bee-killers will be banned for good.

With the support of members like you, we’ll keep up the campaign so bees in France will be protected from Dow’s dangerous pesticides.

That’s not all SumOfUs members like you are doing to protect the bees. In Australia we are making huge strides: after over 30,000 SumOfUs members pressured retailers, Woolworths and two other major companies publicly decided they’ll get neonics off their shelves.

Guardian headline about Woolworth banning neonics

The bees are dying around the world. And huge corporations like Dow and Bayer are upping their game to ensure they can keep selling the very pesticides that decimate them.

It makes me angry. But what gives me hope is when I see SumOfUs members like you springing into action to change the course of the bees’ futures.

Thank you for being part of this incredible community!

I hope you are feeling as determined, positive and uplifted as I do.

Thanks for all that you do,

Nabil, Wiebke, Fatah and rest of the SumOfUs team

PS: A, it’s only thanks to the donations of SumOfUs members like you that we won this battle. But there are still so many more campaigns we need to win -- please consider setting up a monthly donation today. Setting up a regular gift will only take you two minutes and allows us to plan our campaigns efficiently so that we can be ready to take on corporate giants whenever we need to.
