Official report back: April 2018

A,

I wanted to take a minute to send a different email than the ones I usually do, and share an extra-special report back of just a few of the incredible things you've accomplished in the last month on three very important campaigns.

Thanks to you, we could be on the verge of stopping Kinder Morgan's $7.4 billion project, your pressure could stop Bell's dangerous internet censorship plan, and you're helping force Ontario politicians to stop Nestlé’s greedy profiteering once and for all!

So, take a load off and check out these stunning campaigns:

You could stop the Kinder Morgan pipeline

Last week, when you found out that Justin Trudeau was planning a $1,000-a-plate elite fundraising dinner in Vancouver just a stone’s throw away from the Kinder Morgan pipeline protests where nearly 200 Indigenous leaders and community members have... already been arrested, you turned it out.

You crashed Trudeau’s selfie party with a potent message: Trudeau’s continued support of this dangerous pipeline could cost the Liberals his 18 seats in BC in the next election.

Hundreds of SumOfUs members along with our partners at Leadnow.ca and 350.org chipped in and we were able to crowdfund a mobile billboard truck to park outside the exclusive hotel where the dinner would take place!

Your massive protest was covered by national and local news across the country hundreds of times. A day later, when Indigenous leaders shut down the Kinder Morgan terminal, Kinder Morgan was too scared of amplifying the protest to order the arrests of so many prominent Indigenous leaders.

And the very next day, Kinder Morgan did a complete 360 and announced that it was considering pulling the plug on the pipeline by May 31 -- and stopping all non-essential spending until then!

This is unbelievable. It has been our great privilege to support this fight led by Indigenous leaders. We have 7 weeks to go and we’re in for the fight of our lives -- but I feel sure that together we can stop this.

Check out the amazing video of last week's event. Would you consider watching and sharing this video now?

You’re stopping Bell’s nasty censorship plan

When Bell proposed a plan that would censor what websites Canadians could see, SumOfUs members came out in full force. Because of members like you, we were able to blanket hard-hitting ads all over the country warning Canadians about this dangerous plan and letting Bell know we weren't going to let its plan go through without a fight.

With our partners at Open Media, you crowd-funded a massive billboard at a major intersection in downtown Toronto, and bus shelters ads right outside of CRTC’s headquarters and Parliament.

After our radio ads were almost censored by a radio station that was scared of backlash from the CRTC, SumOfUs members like you swooped in to help make sure our message went even further onto radio waves across the country. And we know Bell and the CRTC felt the heat.

Not only that, you helped hire a top-notch ad firm to place strategic online ad-words, so anytime anyone googled Bell or net neutrality, they saw your message condemning its censorship plan. Thanks to you, your ads were seen by almost 100,000 people!

Finally, you flooded the CRTC with 40,000 comments pushing it to reject Bell’s censorship plan! Bell was hoping its plan would go through unnoticed -- and it was certainly not expecting this level of opposition. But you made it happen. We are eagerly awaiting the CRTC’s decision, and we’re ready for whatever comes next.

In just a few weeks, we’re going to swarm Bell’s AGM, where we will be able to voice our concerns to top executives, investors and the media. Stay tuned!

You’re Kicking Nestlé out of Ontario for good

And last but not least, you're taking on Nestlé in Ontario like no other. The multinational beverage giant draws over 4.7 million litres of Ontario’s water a day on expired permits -- and with a key election just around the corner, you’re helping make it an issue politicians can't ignore any longer.c

Through the SumOfUs Canada Society’s Water For Life, Not Profit campaign, hundreds of Canadians funded a powerful a poll to show politicians that it is high time they kicked Nestlé, and the entire bottled water industry out of Ontario for good.

Hundreds of generous SumOfUs members chipped in to fund a strategic poll of Ontarians -- and the results are staggering. Across party lines, a majority of Ontarians want bottled water taking permits phased out in the next two years.

And a full 64% of Ontarians said they don’t want corporations -- like Nestlé -- to have control over their groundwater. Politicians can’t ignore these results. And armed with this potent information we’re ready to roll out a hard-hitting campaign to protect Ontario’s water from corporate greed and make water an election issue that politicians can’t ignore.

Would you share the results of our people-powered poll so your friends and family can see the staggering opposition against Nestlé?

If you've made it this far, thank you! You might not know this, but we’re just a tiny team of two in Canada, A, but we're taking on some of the country and world's largest corporations and winning. We’ve got incredible plans for 2018 to campaign and win like we never have before. We don’t accept any money from governments or corporations, which allows us to remain truly independent. Would you consider chipping in to keep our work going?

Thanks for all that you do,
Emma, Amelia, Angus and the team at SumOfUs
