End indefinite solitary confinement

...Dear friends,
This is incredible.
Just two days ago we launched our petition calling on the government to comply with the law and end indefinite solitary confinement in Canadian prisons.
We asked you to show your support for the hundreds of people currently suffering in solitary confinement, and you really showed up. So far more than 5,000 people have signed to show their solidarity.
If you haven’t had a chance to sign yet, make sure you do now! We are going to Ottawa next week to demand that the government comply with the law, and we need to you stand with us.
SIGN NOWSolitary confinement is disproportionately used against some of the most marginalized members of our society, who are already overrepresented in prisons: Indigenous people and those living with mental illness. The damaging effects of solitary confinement increase the longer a person is kept isolated, and leaves many individuals traumatized and struggling to reintegrate into community.
This practice is abhorrent, ineffective, and illegal and we need your help to spread the word.
We’re over half way to our goal of 10,000 signatures, in order to send a clear message to the government to comply with the law.
I know we can do it. If everyone receiving this email signs and then shares the petition on Twitter and Facebook, we can show the government that we will not stand for torture!
Thank you for your standing with us against solitary confinement. Together, we can end this torturous practice.
Sincerely,
Mark Hosak
