We need a Farm Bill that works for us instead

Dear PAOV,

We’ve got a problem. The US House of Representatives is preparing to vote on the 2018 Farm Bill this week — and this draft legislation is dangerous for farmers, workers and the environment. The good news? There’s time (and momentum) to stop it.

We need your help to stop this bad bill today. Urge your Representative to vote NO on HR2, the 2018 Farm Bill.

Farm Bill laws and rules impact our daily lives in ways large and small. From food access and nutrition programs, to crop insurance and agricultural research, the Farm Bill determines much about the food we eat, how it’s grown and its impacts on rural workers and communities.

This version is truly terrible. It would roll back pesticide protections for waterways and endangered species, including native pollinators — and weaken protections for farmworkers as well. It also limits nutrition assistance programs, guts conservation support for farmers and fails to increase investment in beginning and socially disadvantaged farmers.

The 2018 Farm Bill will head to the House floor for a vote at any moment. Now is the time to take action.

This bill does nothing to reign in the power of the nation’s largest industrial farms — further entrenching a food and farm system that fails to meet the needs of farmers, workers and communities.

Thank you for standing against it! We’ll be sure to keep you updated as the 2018 Farm Bill process continues.
