Noura only has days to live. The clock is ticking before she is hanged. Noura’s crime: killing her rapist in self-defense.PAOV, Noura’s story is hard to read. The Sudanese teenager was just 16 when her family forced her into an arranged marriage. When she refused to sleep with her husband, he had his relatives hold Noura down while he raped her.
I can’t even begin to imagine enduring this horror as relatives look on — doing nothing to help.
Noura was trapped, and when the man tried to rape her again, she defended herself from a violent attack and killed him. Now Sudanese courts have sentenced her to die in just days.
There is hope. My colleagues in France are helping a 16-year-old French petition starter connect with millions of people worldwide to share Noura’s story and save her life. In the past, Noura’s tragic circumstances would have been invisible to the world. Not anymore.
Unfortunately, Noura doesn’t have the luxury of time. Noura’s execution is scheduled for next week and we are doing everything we can to help save her life.
