Social and Intergenerational event, June 1st!!!

PeerNet BC is happy to support AACC's "Disability Social and Intergenerational Event" on June 1, 2018.

This event is creating space for people to share their lived experiences and knowledge on a variety of disability-themed topics such as identity and culture, relationships, fitness and income.

The event is open to anyone identifying as having a disability, invisible or visible.

Friday, June 1 (National Access Ability Week) 11:00 AM–5:00 PM.

Burnaby Association for Community Inclusion (BACI) - Still Creek Office 2702 Norland Ave, Burnaby

This location is wheelchair accessible and ASL interpretation will be available. Please note that this is a scent-free environment.

The keynote speaker is David Roche, an inspirational humorist, motivational speaker and performer who has transofmred the challenges and gifts of living with a facial difference into a compelling message that uplifts and delights audiences around the world.

To register for the event please go to the Eventbrite page at: https://bit.ly/2JlWawb

We recognize that the planning and delivery of the event takes place on the unceded and occupied Coast Salish territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh & səl̓ilwətaɁɬ nations.

Vancouver Food Policy Council:

Screening All Our Father's Relations'

Vancouver Food Policy Council is screening All Our Father's Relations (祖根父脈), a documentary film telling the story of the Grant siblings' journey to rediscover their father's roots and to better understand his fractured relationship with their xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) mother.

Film producer Sarah Ling will be present after the film for a facilitated panel discussion along with Alexandra Henao-Castrillion, Hayne Wei, and Howard E. Grant to explore the erasure of Indigenous and minority communities' food contributions and the impacts current society and actions.

Tickets are available on Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/all-our-fathers-relations-film-screening-tickets-45702715051?aff=

We acknowledge that we are on the unceded, occupied, ancestral and traditional lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) nations. As we strive to understand our own relationships to each other and the land through food, it is important for us to also recognize the historical and ongoing colonization and settlement of Indigenous peoples and lands that make it possible for us to be here as settlers.

Meanwhile, back at the office:

PeerNetBC Spring Workshops

We are just finishing up our Spring Series of PNBC Workshops, consistantly at capacity. This series has been amazing for us and your feedback invaluable! A big thank you to all the participants who helped make the workshops what they were.

It's been great to meet new people in a shared learning environment. If you missed out on the Spring Workshops, we'll be running them again in the Fall. In the mean time, do spread the word!

Our workshops are meant for anyone and everyone... across communities!

This includes but is not limited to non profits, volunteers, peer navigators, community leaders, and businesses who are interested in facilitating internal and external engagement in a peer led way. And of course we welcome all who are just excited to meet new folks and connect in a meaningful way!
