Rob Roy’s son, Christopher, called him every week from his solitary confinement cell. Rob heard his son struggle with the isolation of solitary confinement, sliding deeper into despair.

On May 2015, these calls abruptly stopped. Two weeks later, Christopher Roy hung himself in his solitary confinement cell.

Rob's devastating story highlights the reality of his son's confinement to a cell no bigger than a bathroom 23 hours a day with no meaningful human contact and no mental stimulus.

Rob’s story makes clear the human impact of this torturous practice.

Together, Rob Roy and acclaimed filmmaker Kevin Eastwood have released a short film about the effect of indefinite solitary confinement on Rob’s family.

Earlier this month, we were in Ottawa calling on the government to comply with the law and end indefinite solitary confinement in Canadian prisons. In a show of solidarity, 7,000 of you signed our petition to stand against this torture.

We can’t thank you enough for standing with us and the thousands of prisoners in solitary confinement, but the work is not over yet.

This practice is abhorrent and ineffective, and we need your help to spread the word.
