In his first ten weeks in office, Doug Ford has been on a rampage and one of his biggest targets is the cap and trade program. His government just announced it’s scrapping 758 renewable energy projects funded by cap and trade income, threatening over 6,000 middle class,... green jobs, and trashing Ontario's climate targets.
Ford’s destroying one of the fastest growing industries in the province -- while putting millions back into the pockets of oil and gas giants by the scrapping cap-and-trade program. Canada needs its largest province to be transitioning to renewable energy to help create a low-carbon economy that is key for mitigating the effects of climate change.
We know that Ford is susceptible to public backlash. Because of massive public pressure his education minister recently did a 180 on the government’s stance on the sex ed curriculum. With enough pressure we can change this decision too. Together, we can save these renewable energy projects and protect the green jobs that are critical to meeting climate targets.

Ford’s cuts are indiscriminate -- affecting solar giants like Invenergy as well as small solar companies installing panels on schools, businesses and on reserves. And it’s not just solar companies -- construction and renovations companies are being hit hard by Ford’s cuts too. Over 6,000 people could be out of work because of Ford’s recklessness.
Protecting green jobs is key to transitioning away from the fossil fuel industry that drives climate change. And if we act now, we can still protect these crucial green energy projects.
SumOfUs is holding Ford’s feet to the fire on climate action. When he announced two $30 million dollar lawsuits to stop cap-and-trade in Ontario, over 13,000 members like you called on him to drop it, and protect the climate. We’re committed to holding Ford accountable to the Paris Climate Agreement goals and protecting our climate, and our country, from his radical corporate agenda.
We have seen what Ford can do in just ten weeks. We don’t want to imagine what the province will look like in four years without a major public outcry against his attacks on the climate. That’s why it’s imperative he hears from us now.
