Act now – before another caribou herd is lost forever! r1 ...

Stop caribou habitat destruction
Our ecosystems are unravelling

Dear Paov,

The news in the last two weeks has been devastating. Caribou herds in British Columbia are on the edge of dying out.

Last week, we found out the South Selkirk herd of caribou is down to just three individuals, making it functionally extinct. And then yesterday we found out the Purcells South herd is down to four.

If we don’t act now, other herds will soon join them.

Write Now!
Ultimately, the BC and federal governments are responsible for this devastation. That’s why a group of leading environmental groups sent them a letter demanding an immediate end to all industrial activity in mapped caribou habitat.

The situation is now critical – BC’s caribou herds are disappearing because of the continued loss of old-growth forest habitat. The federal government of Canada has mapped the forests and mountains that serve as critical habitat for caribou. But logging companies, oil and gas companies and motorized recreation continue to damage, degrade and eliminate caribou habitat in BC.

So far the governments have refused to take real action to stop the activities that are destroying habitat. Paov, can you take action now before it’s too late for the caribou? Write now to save BC's caribou! The BC government and Environment and Climate Change Minister Catherine McKenna need to enact an immediate moratorium on industrial activity in the critical habitat until they have the plans and laws in place to ensure no more caribou herds are driven to extinction.

They have an obligation under Canada’s Species At Risk Act to do so, and if they don’t Catherine McKenna must step in with an emergency order to protect caribou.

Help us convince them to do the right thing.

For the ‘bou,
