Victoria residents to march against Kinder Morgan bailout today

VICTORIA – On Tuesday, Finance Minister Bill Morneau announced that the Trudeau government is spending $4.5 billion in public funds to buy Kinder Morgan’s pipeline and prop up a failing project that puts BC’s coast at risk.

At 5:30 today, concerned residents of Victoria will gather at Government and Wharf Streets for a rally to deliver our response. This will be followed by a march ending at Centennial Square with speakers. Participants have been asked to bring pots, pans, instruments and noise makers to say loud and clear: No Pipeline Buyout!

The rally is organized by the Salish Sea Organizing Collective in collaboration with Protect the Inlet, Greenpeace Victoria, Rise and... Resist Kinder Morgan, the Council of Canadians Victoria Chapter, Wilderness Committee, Dogwood BC, and Sierra Club BC.

What: Rally and march

When: Thursday May 31, 5:30 pm

Where: Downtown Victoria tourist information centre (812 Wharf St.)

Speakers include:

  • Joan Morris, Songhees Nation
  • Tiffany Joseph, Tsartlip and Squamish Nation
  • Caitlyn Vernon, Sierra Club BC

More speakers to be confirmed.
