Request for Financial Support from Rise and Resist
I'm writing to ask for financial help to support a solidarity bus trip to Secwepemc territory (super short version of request is e-transfer to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).
Leaders and community members within the Secwepemc, connected with Tiny House Warriors and the Manuel family, have put out a call for support in asserting jurisdiction to their territory. A bunch of us are attempting to respond to this call by filling the Community Action Bus for a trip along the proposed route of TransMountain to the furthest reaches of Secwepemc territory from Aug 15th-19th:
https://www.facebook.com/events/224296738220101/
This call for solidarity comes in the context of the BC NDP issuing a pile of permits for TransMountain (through the BC Oil and Gas Commission), from a 1000-person man camp at Blue River that will almost certainly lead to more violence against indigenous women and girls, to permission for the pipeline to cross through provincial parks, like Mt Robson and North Thompson River.
The bus ride is emergent and being organized as things come together on the ground. We are lucky that someone has offered to drive the bus for free, but there are still a pile of expenses connected with the trip and we are asking for help from people who may not be in a position to go, but who can support others to make the trip.
We are collecting e-transfers through the Rise and Resist email address:

Please feel free to send me any questions you might have. The basic point is that the Secwepemc are mobilizing now because they see government and contractors moving on their territory and are using all the tools they have to politicize and resist the intensification of colonialism. In other words, TransMountain is not a distant possibility, but a current and unfolding reality; it is being abetted not only by the federal government, but also by the provincial NDP hiding behind the 'depoliticized' arm of the BC Oil and Gas Commission.
The Secwepemc continue to say 'NO CONSENT' and need our help to amplify their resistance.
Thanks a bunch, Seb
