PAOV, you’ve had an incredible year.

In 2018, you stood up for what you believe in, you took action on the issues that matter to you, and your actions made a real difference.

Together with the rest of the Leadnow community, you’ve achieved wins that no one thought were possible -- from beating back corporate control of our democracy, to defending our environment, and standing up for justice. (Seriously, take a look below at all that we’ve achieved together this year!)

And the most impressive part? Every single campaign is funded by people like you. No secret cheques from corporate CEO’s or political parties, just thousands of everyday... people chipping in whatever they can afford.

Next year, our movement will face some of the biggest fights yet. With the federal election looming, and far right conservatives scheming to rollback all of the progress we’ve made on the issues that matter to us, we need to make sure we’re ready to fight even harder for what we believe in in 2019.

And, we can’t do it without you. Will you chip in to help us keep winning campaigns on the issues you care about?

CHIP IN
I couldn’t be more proud of what we’ve accomplished this year. Here are just a few of the top highlights from one of our most successful years yet.

We helped derail the Trans Mountain pipeline

The Indigenous-led movement to stop the Trans Mountain pipeline had some huge wins this year -- and Leadnow members like you played a key role.

As protests erupted at Kinder Morgan construction sites in BC, Leadnow members helped take the movement national with more than 100 rallies across the country. The strength of the movement convinced Texas-based corporation Kinder Morgan to abandon the project altogether.

Then, more than 40,930 of you fought back against Trudeau’s plan to buy the pipeline, signing petitions, taking to the streets, and chipping in for hard-hitting ads. Before the government could close the deal, Indigenous Nations scored a major court victory that quashed the pipeline’s approval -- in a legal challenge supported by donations from Leadnow members.

With Trudeau pledging to ram the pipeline through as early as next year, our work isn’t over -- but this year shows that our movement can win against any odds.

We stopped U.S. corporations from suing Canada under NAFTA

People told us that we’d never win our campaign to end toxic “investor state dispute settlement” (ISDS) trade rules that allow multinational corporations to sue Canada over laws that threaten their profits. But Leadnow members aren’t the type to back away from a challenge.

More than 21,000 of us joined forces to urge Trudeau’s NAFTA negotiators to scrap ISDS in the new NAFTA, with massive petitions, hard-hitting ads, and public actions. And it worked -- the new NAFTA totally eliminates the shady corporate lawsuits between Canada and the US that Leadnow members have been fighting for years.

Even though there are other problems with the deal, the fact that we were able to get ISDS stripped from it is a powerful reminder that when we work together, we can do the impossible.

We made 324,000 phone calls for Electoral Reform

Leadnow members in BC have just wrapped up an incredible campaign to win the province’s referendum on proportional representation (Pro Rep) in BC.

The scale of the campaign is staggering -- together, Leadnow volunteers in BC made over 324,000 phone calls, sent 50,000 texts, and chipped in for a powerful ad campaign that reached hundreds of thousands of BC voters. Talk about people power!

Elections BC is still counting the ballots, and all the polls suggest it’s going to be a close call. But one thing is certain -- we fought as hard as we could to win Pro Rep, and we’re proud of all of the hard work that Leadnow members put into our campaign.

Thanks for being part of this campaign. All of these victories started with an email just like this one. With people like you clicking a button to vote on a plan, sign a petition, contact an MP or write a letter to the editor.

And, every single one of these hard-hitting campaigns was paid for by everyday people like you and me. There’s no secret corporate donor bankrolling our campaigns and we’ve never taken a cent from a political party. That’s what lets us stay independent. But it also means that we really mean it when we say that we can’t do this work unless enough people chip in to make it happen.

So what do you say? Will you chip in to help us win big in 2019 on your top issues?

We’re in this together,

Logan, on behalf of Leadnow
