Dear Friends of SJS,

Tonight:

TODAY: Large Crowd Expected for Victoria Town Hall to Shape a Canadian Green New Deal

For Immediate Release

Hundreds have RSVPed to attend a town hall in Victoria to crowdsource ideas for what a Green New Deal should look like in Canada.

WHAT: Victoria’s Green New Deal Town Hall

WHEN: Thursday, May 23rd, 2019, from 6:30 to 9:00 pm

WHERE: Fernwood Community Centre - Gym (1240 Gladstone Avenue, Victoria BC)

WHO: All are welcome

This event is organized by Rise and Resist, the Social Environmental Alliance, Canadian Union of Postal Workers 850, Youth for Climate, First Metropolitan United Church, Rethinking Economics Victoria, and Women's March Canada: Victoria Chapter.

The... Green New Deal is a bold vision for tackling climate change and inequality at the same time.

With an election just months away, people across Canada are preparing to make a crucial decision about the future of this country and the world. More than 150 similar town halls are being held across Canada this month.

The Pact for a Green New Deal is about collectively building a bold and far reaching plan to cut emissions in half in 11 years in line with Indigenous knowledge and climate science, create more than a million good jobs that can support a family, respect indigenous sovereignty, and build inclusive communities in the process.

Organizers Sarah Shepherd and Zev Roman will be available for interviews throughout the day before and following the town hall (in-person or via telephone).
