Dear Friends of SJS,

I just noticed that the announcement for the Green New Deal says the event is taking place on Thursday, June 19. It should have said Wednesday. The meeting is tonight at 6:30 at First Met.

Dear Friends of SJS,

June 19:

Victoria Barnstorm to work towards Canadian Green New Deal

Hundreds have RSVPed to attend a Barnstorm in Victoria to work with current and new

campaigns and see what a Green New Deal could look like in Canada.

WHAT: Victoria’s Green New Deal Barnstorm

WHEN: Thursday, June 19th, 2019

From 6:30 to 9:00 pm

WHERE: First Metropolitan United Church

932 Balmoral Road, Victoria BC

WHO: This event is organized by Green New Deal Victoria, a coalition of grassroots

groups, unions, faith organizations, and individuals.

The Green New Deal is a bold vision for tackling climate change and inequality at the same

time. We are holding a mass organizing meeting to make a Green New Deal a reality in

Lekwungen and W̱SÁNEĆ territories. We have a plan for how to get... there. Come take

concrete action, and start building the future we want to see here in our own communities.

Even if you weren’t at the town hall we still want you there.

At the barnstorm we will be splitting into breakout groups which will organize on themes that

came up at the town hall, and on building popular support for the Green New Deal. The

breakout groups confirmed so far cover: canvassing and leafleting, political pressure, art,

labour outreach, and stopping trans mountain.

Organizers Matt Hulse and Tara Ehrcke will be available for interviews throughout the day

before and following the town hall (in-person or via telephone).

June 20:

The documentary calls for a systemic economic change and describes a world moving simultaneously in two opposing directions. While government and big business continue to promote globalization and the consolidation of corporate power, people around the world are resisting those policies and working to forge a very different future. Communities are coming together to re-build more human scale, ecological economies based on a new paradigm: an economics of localization.
