Paov --
It is time to complete the work
that Tommy Douglas started with Medicare. And, with the release of last week's report, A
Prescription for Canada: Achieving Pharmacare for All, Pharmacare
has become a ballot box issue.
If we fill the in-boxes of key Liberal
MPs in BC, we can pressure the government to adopt the recommendations
of their own advisory council and support universal single-payer
pharmacare. Send an email today.
Decades of expert policy reports, from the
1964 Royal Commission on Health Services to last week’s Pharmacare
Advisory Council report (1), have all reached the same overwhelming
conclusion: medicine should be covered just like doctors and
hospitals.
However, Big Pharma and Big Insurance enjoy huge profit margins as a result... of our fractured system, and they would like it to stay that way. These powerful lobbies are pushing the government to adopt an inefficient and costly fill-in-the-gaps plan that will only continue inequitable access to health care.
We need to tell our MPs to put the needs of the people over the profits of a few.
Act Now1 in 4 Canadian households are not able to afford their medications, resulting in many people having to choose between putting food on the table and buying their medications (2).
There is overwhelming evidence supporting universal single-payer pharmacare. This strategy would not only ensure that all Canadians have equitable and affordable access to life saving medication, but by negotiating drug prices for the country as a whole (“bulk buying”) we could significantly lower prices for prescription medications. A universal single-payer pharmacare plan would save money and lives. (3)
Tell your MP that access to health care should be based on need, not on the ability to pay or where you work.
Send an email nowThank you, your actions keep our public health care strong.

P.S. With a federal election just around the corner, now is the time to get our politicians to support universal, single-payer Pharmacare. Please send an email to our MPs today.
The BC Health Coalition exists thanks to the generous support of people from all across the province. If you'd like to donate to help fund our work, click here.
