Find out where federal parties stand on environmental issues ... r19
OCTOBER 2019 | Donate | Leave a Legacy

DONATE Dear Paov,
A few years ago it would have been difficult to imagine hundreds of thousands of Canadians taking to the streets to support youth demanding action on climate change. The Global Climate Strike on September 27th was a bold statement that people across the country not only support the climate strikers, but demand action from our government.
With the federal election only days away, this mass mobilization is translating into renewed political engagement as Canadians began casting their ballots over the weekend. There has been an early voter turnout increase of nearly 30% compared with the 2015 federal election – a clear sign that communities are making their voices heard where it matters most.
Where do Canada's parties stand on the environment?
West Coast and other leading Canadian environmental organizations prepared a survey for Canada’s six main political parties to see where they stand on some of the most critical issues facing Canadians today: environmental protection, economic justice and human rights.
With just four days until election day, we encourage you to check out the parties’ responses to be informed before you head to the polls. Youth are leading the climate movement – in court and on the streets
Greta Thunberg may not have received this year's Nobel Peace Prize, but her nomination reflects the work being done by countless youth around the world who have given the climate movement a new moral urgency.
Staff Lawyer Andrew Gage explains how youth aren’t just striking in the streets, but turning up in court – suing their governments to prioritize their claim to a future over short-term profits.
Protecting the coast in the face of climate change
Last month the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) spoke out
about the state of the world’s oceans and coasts, and the facts are worrying – rising sea levels, marine species on the brink of extinction, and ocean water quality deteriorating. But there’s good news: the Province of BC can take some powerful legal steps to make sure coasts are protected and responsibly managed.
Staff Lawyer Linda Nowlan reflects on the need for a BC coastal strategy and law to help wild salmon, preserve coastal ecosystems and secure the ocean’s benefits for generations to come.
Welcome to new EDRF lawyer Dr. Larry Reynolds

During a public interest environmental law career that spans more than 30 years, Larry has represented governments, tribunals, environmental protection organizations and First Nations across a wide spectrum of issues in BC and beyond. You can read his impressive bio here.
Celebrating 30 years of environmental legal aid
On November 7th, we invite you to join us in celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Environmental Dispute Resolution Fund!
The event in Vancouver will be an opportunity to connect with our network of lawyers and environmental defenders, and witness the presentation of the 2019 Andrew Thompson Award – recognizing individuals who have made outstanding contributions to environmental protection and sustainability through law in BC. Reserve your ticket here.
