Hello Paov,
We got fantastic news when Environment Minister George Heyman working in cooperation with Forests Minister Doug Donaldson announced logging will no longer be allowed in the Skagit Donut Hole — a beautiful wilderness area surrounded by provincial parklands. We cheered wildly!
But now Imperial Metals has applied for a permit to dig up the Donut Hole and the government’s decision could come any day. Please write to Heyman and tell him to end the mining threat to this wildland and to thank him for ending logging.
For years we’d been working hard to see logging banned in the 5,800-hectare Donut Hole. It was a hard-fought battle with many of you writing letters to the BC government calling for an end to the on-going clearcut destruction. The Donut Hole is literally a hole in two of BC’s most beloved parks that need to be fixed. And now — thanks to the two ministers — logging has been banned there.
