We did it, *|FNAME|*! Teck Frontier Mine is no more r1 ...

Thanks for all your efforts

Hi Paov,

What a shocking turn of events! Last night, Teck Resources announced it was withdrawing its application for the Frontier Mine.

And just like that the largest tar sands mine ever proposed is dead in the water.

That’s thanks to you — your letters, calls and rallies worked. Thanks for all you’ve done. Maybe they realized the federal government would reject the permit, or the public opposition was just too strong, or the economics of building a mega tar sands mine in a climate crisis.

Either way, after more than a decade we put a stop to the expansion of the Alberta tar sands and a lid on Canada’s most polluting industry. Frontier would have created six megatonnes of carbon pollution, more than all the vehicles in Toronto. It would have been twice the size of Vancouver and put downstream communities and ecosystems at risk.

There’s still plenty more to do. It’s time for Canada to stop shoveling money on to the fossil fuel fire and get to work building a post-carbon economy that works for us all. That means abandoning the $17 billion Trans Mountain pipeline expansion and passing a Green New Deal that creates millions of well-paying jobs.

We are winning. And not a moment too soon. Together we can defeat the climate crisis. Someday we’ll look back on this as the fight of our lives.
