Hi Paov,
Thanks to you, it seems the federal government is treading carefully with its planned bailout for the oil industry. It’s been over two weeks since Finance Minister Bill Morneau promised it would be “hours, possibly days” and we know our pushback has been part of that delay.
We also know handouts for failing oil companies will not help their workers. Instead, let’s build these families and their communities a more resilient economy. This crisis can be the start of a just transition off fossil fuels but we need your help.
Will you write a letter to the editor for your local paper asking Canada to be smart about its rescue package?
Alberta wants $20 billion for loan guarantees to bankrupt companies that will never be able to pay it back. For that mind-boggling sum we could give every oil and gas worker in Canada $100,000 to go back to school or start a business. And we would still have $3 billion to invest in new opportunities in low-carbon sectors in their communities.
