Dissatisfied with the BC government’s recent “Interim Report” on BC Hydro, they are calling for a strong statutory mandate for BC Hydro to achieve low-carbon electrification, a new role that goes beyond merely providing electricity service upon customer request. They see this mandate propelling B.C. Hydro to develop a comprehensive long-term plan for achieving quantitative electrification objectives, adding low-carbon electrification to its upcoming Integrated Resource Plan. Bill Andrews is a senior environmental lawyer in BC, representing public interest clients in regulatory proceedings, judicial reviews and appeals. Bill recently received the Dr. Andrew Thompson Award for excellence in environmental advocacy and protection through law. Bill represents the BCSEA in BC Utilities Commission proceedings.

Tom Hackney

Tom Hackney is Policy Advisor for the BCSEA, specializing in high level energy transformation concepts and utility regulation. Tom has been helping with BCSEA’s interventions at the BC Utilities Commission and advocacy to government for the past 15 years. He is especially interested in finding how to get society and government to make the big changes needed to move to a sustainable energy system in BC.
