POLICY UPDATES
Have your say on BC Hydro’s long term planning BCSEA recommends that anyone interested in climate action or renewable energy should get involved in BC Hydro’s public consultations leading up to their long term (20-year) resource plan. There are a couple of reasons for this. Read more.
BC Hydro’s Customer Crisis Fund at Risk of Folding BC Hydro has just recommended to the Utilities Commission that its Customer Crisis Fund (CCF) Pilot Program should not continue beyond its default end date in April 2021.
Implemented in May 2018, Hydro’s CCF Pilot Project gives small grants to BC Hydro customers who face disconnection for arrears in their electricity bills. Read more here.
Message from the BCSEA Board Chair, Jonathan Ho In project management, we have a saying: “No plan survives first contact with implementation”. It’s a recognition that no matter how much you think you’ve thought through everything, you won’t know what you didn’t think of until you try and implement it. With the return to school for K-12 students, I was planning to write about having students back in the classroom coincides with renewed interest in BCSEA’s Cool It! Program. It’s been so popular, in fact, that we have a waiting list of over 20 schools to participate this year...

COOL IT! Updates The Cool It! program is now taking expressions of interest in Fall workshops in October and November. The in-class program is currently available to grades 4-7 in Delta, Central Saanich, the City of Vancouver and the Port of Vancouver. Workshops can also be delivered virtually and our programs have been refreshed to ensure students enjoy an interactive and fun experience that maintains
safety and physical distancing. If you are a teacher or know a teacher who would be interested in a Cool It! workshop this fall contact our Cool It! Program for more information or to register. CHAPTER UPDATES
KAMLOOPS CHAPTER The City of Kamloops has launched the engagement phase of the Community Climate Action Plan. The BCSEA Kamloops Chapter encourages our supporters to read wehat is being propsed and provide your feedback. There's a
survey, a discussion forum and three in-person open house events.Please also take our BCSEA Kamloops Chapter survey where your response will help us plan our activies this coming year.
But we are monitoring sustainable energy action in our neighbourhood, for example:
The Capital Regional District, along with Victoria, Saanich, Esquimalt, Central Saanich and City Green have just launched the Bring It Home 4 the Climate program, providing support for homeowners to make their homes more climate friendly -- especially those still using oil. The program offers free virtual home energy check-ups, a CleanBC Energy Coach service, testimonials from local early adopters and more.
The current program is mainly aimed at houses. Work is being done to make programs for multi-unit buildings.
