Hi PAOV,

Looking for a chance to get out and take action? Here's some information about two important campaign events coming up next week in Victoria:

Kinder Morgan Pipeline Review: Workshop + Online Applications

  Kinder Morgan Terminal (Joe Foy)

If you want to participate in the official review process for Kinder Morgan’s tar sands pipeline, you’ve got one more week to do so!

In mid-January, Canada’s National Energy Board (NEB) opened up applications for the public to participate in hearings on the proposed Trans Mountain pipeline. Don't be scared off by the difficult sign-up process – I've submitted my application already and I'm confident you can do it too!

Applications will be only accepted until noon on Wed. February 12th, 2014.

We’re co-hosting a second registration workshop with our friends at the Sierra Club of BC. The workshop will be held on Tuesday, February 11th from 6-9pm at the Wilderness Committee’s Victoria office, #3-202 Fan Tan Alley (entrance off Pandora St). Drop by and we will walk you through the online form, answer your questions about the process and make sure your concerns are effectively submitted to the NEB – just in time for the application deadline the following day. For more info or to RSVP, check out the Facebook event page.

To apply now, click here to visit the NEB website and fill out your application form.

Rally to Save the Agricultural Land Reserve

ALR Rally Poster

February 2014 marks the 40th birthday of the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR), created to protect farmland across BC for agriculture. Only 5% of the landbase of our mountainous province is protected in the ALR, and now the BC government is considering drastic changes to erode the reserve and the autonomy of the commission entrusted to protect it.

Concerns over farmland have been in the spotlight lately because of plans to build the Site C dam, which would eliminate huge tracts of agricultural land from the reserve by flooding a large stretch of the Peace River Valley.

British Columbians from all walks of life need a reliable supply of farmland to grow food now and for the future, particularly as the benefits of local food systems and the challenges of global transport become clear.

Come out to show your support for farmland at the Food for the Future Family Day Rally on Monday, February 10th at 12:00 noon, the day before the BC Legislature opens.

Visit the Facebook event page for additional details.

I hope you can make it out for one or both of these events! You can also help spread the word about these key campaign issues by sharing on Facebook and/or Twitter.

Thanks for taking action,
