As you read this, some of the last old growth trees in British Columbia are falling.
In spite of the unprecedented public pressure that’s been building internationally, the B.C. government is still stalling on its promise to protect at-risk old growth forests across the province.
So we figured it was time to step things up. We teamed up with Grand Chief Stewart Phillip, David Suzuki, Mark Ruffalo and a long list of scientists, celebrities and Indigenous leaders to produce a new video that’s going viral online.
The video makes it clear that urgent action is needed from the B.C. government. Not in 3 years. Not in 3 months. Today. Right now.

Less than 1% of forests in British Columbia still have big, old growth trees. These forest giants are on Indigenous lands and have been taken care of since time immemorial. They are essential in the fight against climate change. They keep the air we breathe and the water we drink clean. But while the government drags its feet, elders, youth, teachers, scientists and many more are going to jail for protecting some of the last ancient trees on unceded Ditidaht and Pacheedaht territories in Fairy Creek.
This movement has been around for generations – led by Indigenous peoples – but tipping moments like these don’t come around very often. And we can’t afford to let them pass us by.
That’s why I’m so excited that we were able to bring together this incredible group of Indigenous leaders, scientists, and celebrities in the space of only a week to put out this powerful call to action. But creating it was just the first step. Now we need to share it with the world.
