Last week was hard. Between more than 800 sudden deaths linked to our record heatwave and the wildfire that destroyed the village of Lytton in a matter of minutes, many people are mourning loved ones and cherished places.
For those of us who have been working for years to preserve a safe climate, it was a moment of intense grief but also furious anger. British Columbians are dying as a direct result of carbon pollution yet fossil fuel megaprojects are still under construction in this province.
Politicians are making this nightmare worse. Will you write a letter to your local paper raking decision makers over the coals for the damage they’re doing?

Premier Horgan’s flippant remarks about fatalities being a “fact of life” are even more painful knowing he gave billions of dollars worth of tax breaks and subsidies to the LNG Canada project currently underway in Kitimat. When completed, that facility would pollute more than all passenger vehicles in British Columbia.Meanwhile, Prime Minister Trudeau wants to win an election as a climate champion while his government frantically builds the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion through a province that is currently on fire. It would enable the tar sands to continue exporting some of the most carbon-intensive oil on the planet for decades to come.
Let people know you won’t stand for it. Write a letter to the editor using our tool below. Write now! Enough already. Every tonne of carbon pollution we don’t put into the atmosphere will save lives. Governments need to realize their number one job is to keep us safe — and the only way to do that is to end the use of fossil fuels as fast as humanly possible and support workers and communities through the process.
