As British Columbia declared a state of emergency last week, with wildfires raging across the province, the remaining 2.7% of old growth forest in BC continues to be logged at breakneck speed. Over 150,000 Ha of ancient forest are clear-cut every year, including areas affected by our blockades (Granite Creek, Bugaboo Creek, Eden South, Upper Caycuse, Edinburgh Mountain and Camper Creek). At this rate, nearly all remaining old growth will be lost over the next decade.
We've been pulling off something unprecedented at Fairy Creek. Despite hundreds of RCMP set against us, we've stayed strong, even with low numbers over the past few weeks. Please consider joining us on the frontlines. Bring your friends, your family, and your kids - you'll meet people you'll never forget, and become part of a passionate community taking a real stand during a time of ecological crisis. There are many roles at camp, many of which are non-arrestable. Join us at Fairy Creek HQ. From there, you can choose to join a satellite camp, or camp among the friendly community there (great place to bring kids). Come self-sufficient and ready to camp. Teal Jones contractors have resumed roadbuilding into Bugaboo ancient forest on Pacheedat Territory, which contains some of the highest densities of Western Red and Yellow Cedar outside of the Central Walbran. Yesterday, Teal Jones submitted cut block applications for three areas of valley bottom growth in the lower Caycuse.

“Police Line Do Not Cross” — the bane of journalists’ existence at @fairycreekblockade for the last two months, as well as at Wet’suwet’en, Mi’kmaw, and other sites of Indigenous resistance to industry injunctions orders on Turtle Island.
These RCMP exclusion zones allow police to carry out their habitually violent enforcement measures in remote areas, concentrated with Indigenous land defenders, while permitting limited to no media witness.
But July 20, in “a watershed ruling in favour of press freedoms,” writes @laurenkaljur from @thediscourse, “[B.C. Supreme Court] Justice Douglas Thompson stated that the ‘geographically extensive exclusion zones’ used by the RCMP at the Fairy Creek blockades are not ‘reasonably necessary’ and reminded the RCMP of the ‘necessity of avoiding undue and unnecessary interference with the journalistic function.’”
Whether or not this ruling will be respected by the RCMP is uncertain.
